It’s known for its annual lawn tennis tournament when the world’s best tennis players come to Wimbledon Park, yet there's more to life than tennis in this leafy suburb.
The great outdoors is all around you, with the famous Wimbledon Common, a vast area of open heath and woodland, stretching more than two miles. Take a relaxing stroll through the Common and you'll stumble across places of special interest, including the historic Windmill Museum.
In contrast, the lively centre of Wimbledon has a cosmopolitan buzz. Cafes, pubs, restaurants and bars, along with four theatres and a cinema, ensure Wimbledon enjoys a great choice of venues for leisure and entertainment.
In the town centre, the Centre Court Shopping Centre provides three floors of shopping and eating. The Broadway, Wimbledon's main high street, is home to many of the major high street stores, with no shortage of pavement cafes. A weekly market in Plough Lane every Sunday morning sells a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables.
More than 60,000 South Africans live here and remains one of the most affluent areas in southwest London.
