The 2006 Property Investor Show

The Property Investor Show is the biggest trade show in the UK with over 13 000 people attending. International Property Solutions attended with MSP Developments, a developer from Cape Town. The 2010 World Cup event drew much foreign investor interest.

Scott Picken, IPS MD, gave a presentation on, "Investing in South Africa and the impact of the World Cup" and although he has done it for the last 3 years there were nearly double the people who attended last year and huge interest from international investors who wanted to make the most of the opportunities that the world cup will offer.

IPS has also been working closely with 47 companies who market and sell international property in the UK and to date they have not been interested in South Africa. However there has been a change in this attitude and tremendous interest is now shown by these companies who want to market and sell into South Africa. Picken believed that the World Cup had a major part to play.

There is a long way to go, but if South Africa makes the most of its opportunities it could be the place to buy over the next 4 years.

At the moment Bulgaria is the most popular location in the world and over 40% of the sales in Bulgaria are to British and Irish investors. Bulgaria has been very clever in a joint branding initiative with the countries developers and agents working together to sell Bulgaria first and then sell their product.

At the Property Investor Show, they had a huge Bulgaria section which was so effective in selling Bulgaria.

"If South Africa was to learn from them there is no reason South Africa could not be the next destination because at the moment we are not even seeing the tip of the iceberg" concludes picken.
